It's well-established in the basketball games industry. NBA Live is the only competitor to 2K. The game's inconsistent release schedule has resulted in 2K has held the lead in the market for the last five or six years. This dominance has produced record-setting sales for 2K Sports, Take-Two Interactive and the game itself has not improved over the past few years. There are bugs and issues within the gameplay that have been present in the two previous releases. It is frustrating for fans who invest $60 in the game every single year to buy a game which has been designed with little thought.
NBA 2K20 is arguably the lowest-rated game in the series since NBA 2K8. It was an extremely basic game. It seemed like the creators used NBA 2K19, slapped a painting job on the game and made it available as NBA 2K20. The only significant change in the game was the number of advertisements that were plastered across MyCareer and the Park. I believe that NBA 2K will be an outstanding game. The issues that need to be fixed are relatively minor. The game will benefit from all suggestions. 2K is an excellent base but there are areas that could use some refinement.
Player Likenesses Classic teams have been part of 2K since 2011. Although there were some problems with the classic teams in the past, licensing of images of players remains an issue. NBA 2K must pay a fee to retired players every year to be able to make use of their image within the game. A few players do not want their image to be utilized in the game. 2K is not able to agree on satisfactory financial terms with any of these players. This means that classic teams generally don't have the pieces needed that make them unique.
The Seven Seconds and Fewer Suns are the perfect examples of incompatibility. Joe Johnson is not on the team. Johnson was an important scoring option for Phoenix and averaged 17.1 points per game for the Suns. Johnson's absence makes it impossible to choose the Suns when playing online in competitive games. The Phoenix Suns in 1993 made the NBA Finals behind Charles Barkley's efforts. That team was excellent and featured Charles Barkley in the prime of his career. The 1993 Suns aren't in the game at all since 2K doesn't want to offer Barkley's salary.
