Let a player pick the Auction House if they have no checks or thieves, but then don't let them pick an action (so they do nothing that turn)

We've had several cases where a player has gone to the Auction House with no checks or thieves, therefore not being able to pick an action. There are two possible solutions -- which is your preference?

I voted to not let them pick the Auction house, as it's the more lenient option. I guess (from personal experience) that most of the times this happens, it's by accident. ie, not realising that you had no action to do.
It is possible that someone might choose to go there to make a 'null' move, but I imagine that has to be very infrequent, as I can't see any real benefit.
Also, the more lenient option would seem to suit a 'fun' games site, although I expect you'll get someone who says that if an opponent clicks the wrong button, that's tough!

I voted for the first one. In keeping with the spirit of the game.

page 4 bottom
Note: If you do not have 3 or more cards in a a legitimate order, you may not play the Exhibit card.

page 4 bottom
Note: Should there be no Collectibles cards left for purchase after several rounds of the game, the game play occurs only in the Castle.

Ok granted that the rules don't say it's forbidden to go to the Auction Hall if you have no thieves or cash cards but I think it prevents noobs from wasting a turn. One can always just play a detective in the Castle. Say you had no thieves, no cash cards, and no exhibit with 3. Thus your only legitimate move would be detective in castle. So it's a safe way to prevent it from hanging.

A really nice interface might warn you if you attempted to go to the auctionhouse with no cash and no theives, but still allow you to go if you insisted.

One possible reason someone might knowingly go to the auctionhouse with no actions to perform, would be to possibly trick another player at the auctionhouse into using a higher valued check than necessary. I have only played Hoity Toity FTF so I don't know if the online version here shows how many checks each player has or which ones have been spent. I suppose if the gamelog shows all of that information, then maybe there is no point to ever going to the auctionhouse with no auctions since the other players would know you are without checks.

The interface shows that info. You don't need to mine the gamelog.

I've just updated the game so that going to the Auction House is not an option if you have no thieves and no checks.

Let me know if you run into any problems.

In game #17563 I am out of checks, but I have 1 thief left. I was denied the option to go to the Auction House.
