Attack from another player :

moved 1 armies from Vogtland into Böhmen, occupied by TinuZ's 8 armies aided by peasants

-- 1 of morsac's attacking armies plus 0 from the cup and 8 of TinuZ's defending armies plus 0 from the cup go into the tower
-- 3 of morsac's attacking armies and 5 of TinuZ's defending armies, aided by 0 peasants, come out of the tower
-- The attack fails: 2 of TinuZ's defending armies remain in the province, and 3 return to the supply along with 3 of morsac's armies
-- 2 of busgat's armies remain in the cup

.... if 5 (of Cool come out from the tower .. why the other 3 desappeared???
Thanks
TinuZ

This is correct. The tower contains armies of all colours waiting to be dislodged when armies are thrown in. When armies are thrown in some (or none) get stuck and other residual armies get knocked out.

Just as an additional 2 of morsacs armies got knocked out of the tower to join the one that was thrown in (resulting in a total of 3 that came out for the attack), 3 of TinuZ's armies (out of the 8 thrown in) got stuck in the tower resulting in only 5 coming out.

These 3 will probably come out in later combats.

The battle was then 3 attackers against 5 defenders so 2 defenders remain and 3 armies from each side are returned to supply.

I hope that clears it up

If you want to work out how many are in the tower, each player has a total of 62 armies that are either on the board, in supply, in the cup, or in the tower so;

Number in Tower= 62 - (Armies on board+ Armies in supply +Armies in cup)

Farmers are a different matter though and the above doesn't apply.

Actually, there are only 61 armies in play for each player. In a face-to-face game, one cube of each color is used to mark the grain track, and I believe they implemented the same effect (i.e., one less cube per player) here.

Like the man in orthopedic boots; I stand corrected.

61 it is.

Thanks,
I understand your explanation ... if the quantity inside the tower is secret ...
but ... as I can see, the number of the armies in the tower is written beside ... and after that attack was 0 (not 3, the right number) ... now is 1 ... then? ... where is the error? or simply ... thera are still 3 armies in the tower?! (but why now is declared 1? and before 0?) The others?

I add this consideration about the total amount :

on the table I have 36 armies
in the supply I have 22 armies
in the cup I have 1 army

36+22+1=59

.... not 61 ... then I'm right, 2 armies are missing from the Defense in Bohomen.

Considerations?

OK it helps to understand how the actual board game works;

When armies are dropped into the top of the tower they re-emerge out of the bottom into the 'CUP'. In a battle, other colours apart from the two sides fighting and the farmers will often come out too. These armies, which are not involved in the fight are not returned to supply but stay in the cup. This is the number reported and does not include those armies still hidden in the tower.

By use of the previous calculation (using 61 though) you can always work out what armies are able to come out so the cup number isn't so useful. However in the boardgame you don't have time to calculate eveyones totals to see whats in the tower so the cup number is quite handy.

If you check my previous mail and apply the calculation it actually looks like this;

Total in tower = 61-(36+22+1)

Result = 2 and that is how many armies are lodged in the tower

And if you want to make your calculation even more precise, you should know that the algorithm SbW uses for the tower is very simple:

1. For an army dropped into the tower, there is a 30% chance that it will get stuck in the tower; and

2. For an army already stuck in the tower, there is a 30% chance it will be dislodged into the cup each time a new attack is made (by anybody).

So if you're comparing strengths for an attack or defense, each cube on the board is worth 0.7 armies, and each one stuck in the tower is worth 0.3 armies. (Note, if you are calculating defensive strength, you also have to account for farmers in the tower, either from initial seeding or due to revolts. I have never bothered to try to keep track of that number, though.)
