Join the first annual World Cup of Amun Re!

Here's how it works:

Players will be organized into teams representing the "Nations" of the world (see below).
There will be both a Singles and a Doubles competition.

Ideally, I'd like to create 16 or 32 equal-sized "National" teams of either 2 or 4 players – some "unified" regional teams can be created.

For the Singles competition, Teams will play against each other in four equal-sized Divisions (games will be structured so that two teammates will not be in the same game).

Scoring in Singles games will be as follows:
1st Place = 3 points for that team
2nd and 3rd Place = 1 point each
4th Place = 0 points

The 8 top scoring teams from each Division will advance to a Semi-Final, but the exact structure won't be clear until we know the size of the field.

For the Doubles competition, each "National" team will be split into pairs. Each pair will play in a Division with 3 other pairs from other "National" teams a la World Cup qualifiers.

Scoring in Doubles games will be as follows:
1st Place = 2 goals
2nd and 3rd Place = 1 goal each
4th Place = 0 goals

Thus placing 1st and 2nd or 1st and 3rd will win by 3-1, but 1st and 4th vs 2nd and 3rd = a 2-2 tie.

Divisional Ranking will be based on Wins, then Goals For.

Divisional Winners (plus additional teams if needed) will advance to a bracket-style play-off (for those games, there will be a published tie-breaker "shoot-out" to determine advancement).

Divisional distribution will be based on current player stats at time of game creation (wins x3 + games played will determine "seeding").

Want to join?

Reply to this thread and tell me what Nation you wish to represent. You may want to provide a second or third choice. To fill out team rosters, preference will be shown to players with the most completed games (total) on SBW.

Important: For the purposes of this event, the following are considered to be Free and Independent "Nations":

* Republic of Texas
* People's Republic of California
* Empire of New York
* Commonwealth of New England
* Republique du Quebec (as distinct from Canadia)
* Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija
* Burma

Hey! What about the People's Democratic Commonwealth of Gloucestershire?
I bet I can find 3 more Glossies without trying too hard!
Alternatively, put me down for Ingerlund.

Put me in, texas if possible.

EDIT: I misunderstood! I thought you listed the nations to participate. I will take any team that'll have me.

USA, Nawth Ca'olina (or Iowa, but something tells me the Hawkeye State won't be fielding a team on its own...)

Any nation as long as Eric Freeman is the other representative. If that is not possible then Brazil is my second choice. Very Happy
