Each match consists of 3 games on the same map - a no variant, a variant 1, and a variant 2 game.

Password for all games: tournament

Players have been seeded based on their previous tournament performances.

Everyone will get to keep playing in the tournament until they have lost twice. When you lose the first time you move into the second part of the draw.

Maps are all new to the 2 player tournaments, please let me know what you think of them:

Round 1: 331
Round 2: 325
Round 3: 291
Round 4: 365
Final: 117

The second part of the draw will need at least one extra map, the next on my list is map 65.

The winners side of the tournament is a knockout draw. So the winner of game 1 will play the winner of game 2, and so on. So you can work out in advance who you might play in the next round.

Much as I enjoy Doug's maps, I don't know how well suited map 231 is to variant 1 play - unless people leave each other alone and are fortunate with animal and land draws, it might be hard to raise much cash.

But I'm happy to give it a try, should I somehow manage to survive the tournament that long.

Could this be why I can't create the game name.... With every game I try to create for this--it comes up that the name has already been used..???? Confused Confused

If you happen to get past your round one and two matches, you'll play me in round 3...so not to worry, you won't be in round 4

I was able to create mine but try something like 2 Player T3 G9 (but really should have been called T4) and it should work

sorry everyone of course it should have been T4, not T3 Smile

I forgot to update the field in my spreadsheet.

Map 231 is not the map I thought it was. We'll scratch that map. Later today I'll work out which map I meant to use!

just a small comment:

one of the interest in the double KO system is that this is a fair system with a random seeding. You will have each round "big" games, and the loser of a big game in the first round still have opportunity to win the tournament. You miss this with the seeding here. Anyway, i will fight with pleasure with Rebelsplayer!

Isn't this a bit awkward tournament structure, because the loser bracket must play 2 rounds while the winner bracket only plays 1 round? Check here for details.

I agree it may prove awkward. Strictly speaking I'm not running a double elimination tournament, as once you've lost once you are eliminated from the main draw. The first time you lose you move into the loser's half of the draw, where you play until you lose a second time.

Last time I just put all the first round losers into the loser's draw. Anyone who lost after the second round was eliminated. This time I thought I'd give everyone a second chance before being eliminated. It might prove fairly cumbersome!

You can still make it virtually double elimination if you wish.

After round 1 you have 16w(inners) + 16l(osers) + 0e(limiated)
round 2 8w 16l 8e
round 3 4w 12l 16e
round 4 2w 8l 22e
round 5 1w 5l 26e

In round 6 the remaining winner plays one of the losers, and the other 4 losers are reduced to two. If the loser wins, you have 4 semi finalists all on one loss. If the winner wins, he gets a bye into the final.

This way all rounds except possibly the penultimate are the same length. The way cpsof95 (or his link) envisaged it is to have longer rounds for the winners in round 3 onwards.

In practice the games in each round will not finish at the same time so it probably does not matter how you arrange it - there will be long waits for some anyway.

Does that mean that you can't win the tourney if you lose one game?

At some point there will be an uneven number of players in the loser's half. How do you deal with this situation?
