Now that there are close to 300 maps and 33 pages of map selections, it would be nice to be able to sort the maps by popularity, to be able to enjoy the ones lots of people seem to like. Easiest way would be to be able to sort by games played. Maybe more advanced would be some sort of ranking system or thumbs up or something along those lines.
Not that it's super important, but when i create a game i usually look at the last 3-4 pages of maps, so the middle maps most likely won't get picked too often (except for the ones the are favorites).

I agree this would be an excellent feature. Sorting by plays is a good way to be able to view the good maps easily.

I disagree that games played is a good way to sort maps. There are a select few maps that have a relatively high (40-60) number of plays that IMO are really unplayable. Plus, this just tilts the balance towards maps that have been online much longer.

I would, however, like to request that there be a feature that allow a map creator to hydrogen bomb a map he's created into oblivion. I've made a few clunkers that have been played but once and I've made such inactive, but even I don't want to look at those aberrations. I'd love to free up server space by torpedoing those.

both Kanga and IBX have good points
a fair solution might be to have multiple sorts like the rankings list
some sorts that might help >>>

most plays
least plays
map creator
total hexes
number of markets, land, or water hexes

You could also sort by "number of unique players who have played"

If we're asking for the stars, it would be neat to have a rating system for maps, maybe restricted to those who've actually played the map, and also a section for comments (e.g. works well for two, or for variant 1, etc.)

I agree with IBX about games played, too - there are some maps that have lots of games played just because they've been around a long time or because they were used in a tournament, not because they're necessarily better than others.

You could also sort by number of land types as a growing number of maps have only 2-3 different land types on them (I know cause I'm busy making 'em). It makes for a much different style of game that some players may want to seek out.

It might be difficult to actually collect some of the information listed above, whereas total plays should be pretty simple.

Sorting by most played makes most sense to me. I wouldn't always want to choose the most played maps; but on those occasions it's easy to scroll further down the list (perhaps to the far end to try some of the unplayed maps). It just would make the process of choosing a map more streamlined. As it stands, I have a part memory, part written list somewhere that reminds me which maps I like.

That's what I was thinking to make it really easy. Total plays are already there, and you can eyeball what the map looks like in the little preview to see how much land, etc there is.

Maybe someone can tell me howe to remove failed maps!! If its simple and clear to remove maps that dident work out as you wanted, the list would be probably a lot more shorter! (Bloody english) Embarassed

from the "browse" area of the Hacienda map screen
go to your map and click on "private" or "inactive" and the map is removed from
the active list --- you will still be able to see it -- others will not

if you want to bring the map back just click on "public"

Well even if we don't get such a functionality here, we could expand this geeklist with more maps and do the rating and discussion there:
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/26139
(Yes the geek is down right now, but should be back up in the next 24 hrs.)
