This should be a really good game. Tom beat me, I beat Rebel and Rebel beat Tom.

(Also, woo hoo! for the Lait sisters in both finals!)

3 player tournament B final results:

Kanga wins all 3 games.

No variant: I grabbed a significant halfway lead courtesy of a large land mass and touching 7 markets. Linda had touched more markets but lacked the scoring land. Almondralf was caught with a lot of unspent cards in his hand and his score suffered as a result. Second half was more even but the damage was done.

Kanga 203
Lindalait 182
almondralf 170

Variant 1:
almondralf went for a 2 large herd, mega money but few market strategy. Linda went for touch all the markets but dont worry about money strategy. I was somewhere inbetween.

Halfway found me with a narrow 2 point lead from Linda. Almond again got caught out with a good portion of his scoring not yet played and was well behind. The second half saw Linda go on to touch all 12 markets, compared to my 9. If the game had ended one turn earlier (after Linda had touched her 12th market), she would have won by about 10 points. However on the last turn Linda ran out of scoring moves and I was able to catch her and win on a countback. Final scores:

Kanga 177 and 54 gold
Linda 177 and 23 gold
almondralf 141

Variant 2: A hard fought game throughout, a few lucky tile draws towards the end and *not* being blocked from my 10th market touch (made in the last 2 or 3 turns) gave me a narrow victory.

Kanga 157
almondralf 153
Linda 134

Despite winning all three games they were very hard fought matches, only in one of the games did I feel comfortable. I think I only took the lead in the other two games on the very last turn!

3 player tournament A final:

V0: t_o_m9 153
smlait 164
Rebelslayer 169

A close game with the blocking of 1 market from the other's by Rebelslayer making the difference.

V1: smlait 86
Rebelslayer 136
t_o_m9 141

Susan got caught low on points in the first half and couldn't catch up. Tom connected markets and Reb went for money herds. Tom held a slight first half lead for victory.

V2: smlait 138
t_o_m9 136
Rebelslayer 132

A crazy game with lots of blocking. By the half way point it was clear that Reb was blocked out of enough points to win, and looked like losing by a huge margin. Tom had a big lead but Susan had more land. A land buying frenzy resulted and somehow Susan scored enough to beat Tom and Reb caught up for a close third.

1 game each - Countback of score went to Rebelslayer over Tom by just 5 points over 3 games!

Great games all! Laughing

I realised that I hadn't ever decided / stated what to do if all players win one game each, which was somewhat short sighted of me. Options are:

1. Most points across all 3 games wins

2. Play one more game as a decider

3. Play another 3 games and hope that players dont win 1 each

They each have good and bad bits. 1 gets it over and done with, but points difference is a fairly weak way to decide the champion.

2 is probably my preferred option

3 just creates more headaches if they win one each, but is the fairest otherwise.

Any thoughts?

I think option 2 -- just play one more game Smile

and keep it simple
use standard scoring and map-001

I thought something like this may happen when I raised the issue for the Amun Re finals.

With yours there is an implication that differences should apply as they were the tie breaker before the final (meaning Rebelslayer is the winner). I believe this is the same as total points when the score is 1-1-1.

If you stated in advance that you were going to have a 3 game final, followed by a 1 game final if it was 1-1-1 would that leave the possibility of kingmaking in the last of the three games to finish?

I suspect I will be going for just one game for Amun Re.

I can see what you mean, this could easily be the default option.

This can happen whatever the format.
