If I do the league again, then I was thinking of reverting to my previous format, which did involve games starting every few weeks regardless of progress. I used to do it every 10 days but I think I'd probably make it slower this time around.
6 players per division with games starting 3 weekly would be a 3-4 month tournament, probably manageable.
And players would be rated on their performances in all Hacienda tournaments. Of current players, the top 6 are
Total_Twit
Kanga
brennus
andyp
powermorph
GamesOnTheBrain
(Rebelslayer) - might be able to convince him to return. |

sounds great, would be good to get some of the ex top players to come back too....
just a quick update, as brennus suggested in an ealier message... there was no way back in the second half for him and so I closed out the win to reach the final
good luck to andyp & Djura |

I would be up for some of that. I know i'm not the best player, but I am improving. |

Total_Twit has definitely made the final, and andyp looks unassailable with an 18 point lead at the halfway stage and good 'field position' and a couple of extra tiles.
Assuming andyp doesnt mess up, lets get the final going.
Map: 550 Variant 1
Password: final
Deathmatch 2 Final andyp(5), Total_Twit(6)
Good Luck |

Twit, lucky enough to start first, takes an 8 point lead at half time, can Andy pull a houdini and come back from that? |

I was out twitted all they way - lost it from round 2! as I think the starting positions were crucial and I missed the best spots! |

It shows how hard it is to find maps that dont offer some advantage to the first player.
Of course, you still then have to have the tiles to play in the best locations
but as second player if you find some of the best spots taken and you dont have the tiles for the other good locations (which is what happened to Djura in her match against andyp) you are stuffed.
I think that the final, both semi finals and at least some of the quarter finals were won by the starting players. |

Good point although to be fair to twit the final map was symetrical with two similar starting positions so I could have taken the same spots as him - just chose not to. although it did mean he could race to the crucial hard to reach markets first and this might well have helped him secure that lead at 1/2 time then had to try something special to comeback in 2nd half which didn't work as twit played too well and didn't allow door to open through any mistakes!
he still had to play a no mistake game which for me sadly he did!! |

This is one of the reasons why I like v2 best. It mitigates the first player advantage a bit, as later players have more control over and certainty of the end game. |

Andy well and truly outplayed me Kanga.... however I did find it tricky lacking the only tiles that would have suited those starting squares.... I agree those 8 tiles, and especially the 4 which allowed access to the double markets for 3 animals, were very powerful. Choosing maps is tough! |
