Since I bought a new washing machine and a fridge, my power bill is higher than usual. Why? It should be the other way around, does it not?

I don't think it's because of your new acquisition. It also depends on how much energy you consume..like your habits.if you try to save and so on. Or, you may blame the supplier for the higher tariff. Try to introduce all data on this website https://usave.co.uk/energy/ and compare energy prices. You will get a new tariff which one you would like and no large bills anymore. Tell me if it works!
